Apollo has been more than gracious with GBM and GBM readers, he agreed to do an interview with us before GBM even went public. Apollo hooked Eric up with some unreleased beats; so in return, Eric offered Apollo a painting.

Here are some personal emails tossed back and forth between Eric and Apollo. 100% legit with some minor edits for clarity- everything in brackets [ ] are the edits:

alright, i am almost done with your painting, i will be real close tonight, when i am done tonight i want to send a photo of it, i hope it looks like you, it was hard because i only usually do face portraits so i took on of the images you sent and just used the face… you’ll see. If you like it i will mail it out friday. if not, i will do whatever changes you want and mail it after that. If you want a HUGE painting like 24 x 24 someday .or even 48 x something i can make another for you… but it will be like [deleted] bucks with shipping and all…. this one is obviously free. i will send a photo tonight or tomorrow.

So in case you suck at retaining stuff you read, here’s the scoop. Eric offered Apollo Brown a painting and asked what he would like on it. Apollo suggested a self portrait of himself painted in Eric Goodman’s style. Apollo also wanted his name somewhere on the portrait.

Apollo said that he plans to put this painting behind his studio chair… 12”x12” is hella small.

After the above email was sent, Eric and I were just chillin in CHQ1. We sat and talked about what’s going on what what’s to come. Eric was telling me that the 12×12 piece isn’t going to be good enough for Apollo to put in his studio because of the size. Eric showed me the painting. That shit was on hit but seriously, it was too small. We were thinking, when Apollo gets this piece, he’s going to like it and appreciate it but it’s hard to enjoy because of the size.

SO……………………….

This is why Eric and I hang out. We got this idea, if Apollo is going to “hate” (we just assumed that to hype ourselves up), we might as well make him really HATE it.

To continue on with the prank, Eric called Apollo to get his address and ship the painting to him. According to Eric, Apollo was so stoked that he was getting a painting of himself. Everything in the emails fits so perfect with our prank idea, “a portrait definitely in your style with the name apollo brown somewhere on there”.
